The Glacier Valley Farm C.S.A. (Community-Supported Agriculture) Program is Alaska’s first locally-owned C.S.A. program!  I am so proud to be able to serve these localvore entrepreneurs, and lucky to have the wonderful opportunity help them bring Alaskans quality organic produce while supporting sustainable farming.

The website is responsible for processing all of the customer orders, specifying pickup location preferences, and generating reports for the owners.

Programmer Steve Johnson once again expanded on Expression Engine’s built-in functionality with custom php/mySQL to help the owners of Glacier Valley Farm manage the operations and logistics of their business through a custom web-based tool.

Glacier Valley Farm C.S.A. Program: The Client Experience

In September of last year, we started our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program, focusing on Alaskan produce. We had thought that we could get through our first six months just using a spreadsheet program, adding customers’ information in by hand each week.  Then we figured we’d be ready, full of experience and knowledge about exactly what we wanted, to hire Taughnee and Steve to design and program a website the following summer.

It didn’t exactly work out that way. Demand grew quicker than we had anticipated, and we realized that to keep track of our orders and all our pickup locations, we needed a website with the capacity for e-commerce. Taughnee and Steve rescued us, quickly designing a beautiful, effective site using our photographs! We love it! Of course, since we’d only been in operation for a couple of months, we didn’t know at the outset exactly what we would need as we grew (sometimes only a few weeks or months later). Taughnee and Steve were there for us every time we thought of something we suddenly needed… quickly changing or adding to our site as needed.

We are so pleased about how it’s working for us!  We’re still growing, and EndeavorCreative has made a website that keeps growing with us. We can add all kinds of information and new pickup locations by ourselves as we grow—making it a very self-sufficient website. But we know if something comes up that needs adjusting, Taughnee and Steve are there to make it work for us!

It’s been quite an experience learning about website management, but the ExpressionEngine platform makes it easy for us. As an enthusiastic learner, I’ve had a great time learning the ins and outs of website administration. I never thought that growing zucchini and tomatoes, eggplants and Hubbard squash would turn me into a computer whiz! But here we are, managing our own cool website!
